IPCC REPORT

THE IPCC REPORT ON TEMPERATURE RISE

The rise of 1.5C has a significant impact on the earth. The Scientific report of IPCC said that the world is now completely off the track, heading more towards 3C this century rather than 1.5C.

Keeping to the preferred target would need “rapid” far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society. If warming was to be kept to 1.5C this Century then the emission of carbon dioxide would have to be reduced by 45% by 2030. The report launched in Incheon in South Korea had an immediate impact on winning praise from politicians all over the world. But, negotiators in Poland ran into serious trouble when Saudi Arabia, USA, Russia, and Kuwait objected to the conference “welcoming” the document.

IPCC: INTERGOVERNMENTAL PANEL ON CLIMATE CHANGE

The UK government says it intends to legislate for a net-zero emission target at an appropriate point in the future and has joined 18 other nations in the carbon neutrality coalition.

Some environmentalist believes that the pathway to keeping the temperature down to 1.5C can be done without resorting to mechanical devices or planting billions of trees. “if  we have very rapid emission reduction and coupled that with massive scaling up of restoration of land and changes in our food system to reduce meat” consumption, we can get to 1.5C in a way that creates lots of wellbeing for people,” says Hannah Mowat from Fern. “it creates better air and reduce level of obesity. It’s a world we want to say yes to rather than further industrialization of our landscape.
